Description
At the base of the brain there is a haemorrhagic mass some 3 x 2 cm; there is haemorrhage in the
surrounding tissues and in the brain immediately above, presumably due to surgical intervention.
History
This patient, at the age of 27, was admitted for investigation of "brain tumour". At
operation some days later the lesion was partly removed and following this he developed a
right-sided paralysis and shortly afterwards died. At autopsy, the pituitary was replaced by tumour
which had expanded the fossa and extended into the anterior fossa on the left. The tumour was
distinct from the optic chiasma; the third ventricle was compressed from below. Histologically the
lesion was a chromophobe adenoma of the pituitary.
